Camazotz Country Estate aims to be a BIG deal — a globally renowned brand for co-living with nature. A mega success of economic cooperative abundance within an open intentional community framework that supports members to 'be themselves' and find a home within a caring community of like-minds.
Building that kind of culture, while starting from the various lacks and limitations we have on site right now, does not seem easy.
Bottom line, here's what we expect from our guests:
- Eagerness to participate and help
- An internal motivation to help build towards the future, not just live for the moment
- Positivity, lightness of communication, respectful directness, openness to face the spontaneous sensitivities that may come up from time to time as strangers quickly integrate into a new living condition together even for just a short period of time.
Confused? Want some examples?
We currently have to ration our electricity use because the amount of appliances we want to use is too much for the limited amount of solar energy we capture (we are entirely off-grid!)
As such, WiFi needs to be turned off when it's not in use. If you find someone has forgotten to switch off the WiFi we need a quick, easy, direct way to remind the person so they develop the mental habit of remembering to turn it off when they are finished using it.
If that happens openly, instantly and is well received, no tension is created. If the person says 'oh it wasn't me and I was really upset that you thought it was me without coming to me and asking first', this is producing way more negative vibe than is necessary.
It is these kinds of small tensions from which trust is made or lost, and the cultural vibe is strengthened or weakened.
Finding the balance and quickly integrating new people into an open direct communication style is not necessarily easy.
Ultimately, that' what we're aiming for. No hard feelings. We can all learn to communicate better.
Overall, we aim for a culture that is open (transparent, honest, direct) and positive (supportive, grateful, respectful) and focused (we all have a lot to do in our personal lives, as a community group, and towards contributing to the evolution of Camazotz Country Estate). As such, we aim to not take things 'too' personally. Crack on. And build trusted intimacy over time with a lightness of being.
We hope this paints enough of a picture to suggest the kind of culture we envision.
